Mr. Smith has a long history of involvement in the cultural life of Toledo. He has served on a variety of committees, commissions, and task forces on both the local and state levels for governmental and non-profit cultural organizations. Mr. Smith has been musical director for many professional musical productions and dinner theater shows, guest conductor for numerous groups, a high school choir director, music consultant to various groups around the state, in addition to producer for his musical entertainment company, CRSmith Productions.

He was donned a "Jennings Scholar" by the Toledo Board of Education in recognition of his classroom efforts. His groups have performed before and/or with such notables as former Vice Presidents of the United States, Walter Mondale and George Bush, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Nell Carter, former Broadway artist and star of the popular television show "Gimme a Break."

His degrees include a Bachelor of Music Education Degree (Miami University), a Master of Music in Conducting (Bowling Green State University), and a Specialist Degree in Administration (University of Toledo). Mr. Smith is a long-time educator having served as a high school principal and human resource director.
